Six Fishes founder, Cara Frank recognized that many people would come for acupuncture treatment more frequently if it was more affordable. Many people’s budgets are stretched thin with school tuition, student loans, mortgages etc, leaving very little for self-care. This acknowledgement, combined with the significant population growth of the Gray’s Ferry end of South Street, served as the inspiration to open a friendly, community centered practice: Six Fishes Neighborhood Acupuncture was born!

Six Fishes Neighborhood Acupuncture provides private acupuncture treatments along with affordable, semi-private and mid-priced acupuncture treatments. Modeled after the hospital clinics in China, semi-private acupuncture treatments will be provided on massage tables separated by drapes to provide full body acupuncture treatments at $40 per treatment.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does semi-private treatment mean?

Treatments are given in a peaceful open room with massage tables that are separated by drapes. Soft music plays, a fish tank bubbles in the background, cell phones are turned off and voices are kept low. Although there are other people near you, everyone is resting or sleeping. It is a very peaceful, sunny and beautiful space. To insure your privacy, we do a short intake in a private consultation room before your treatment.

Can I get custom herb formulas at Six Fishes Neighborhood Acupuncture?

Six Fishes Neighborhood Acupuncture carries a large selection of herbal formulas in pill, liquid and granular form. If a custom formula is the best treatment option for you, then the formula will be filled by China Herb Company located at 750 South 15th Street. From there, you can pick it up, it can be shipped or it can be delivered to Six Fishes Neighborhood Acupuncture the next day.

What if I want private acupuncture treatment?

In addition to the semi-private part of the practice, we offer two private acupuncture treatment rooms for those who prefer complete discretion and privacy.

A distinct advantage of Six Fishes is the flexibility to choose between treatment options. For instance, you might have a complicated condition and prefer private treatment. Then, when your symptoms are stabilized, you can be treated in the semi-private side of the practice for maintenance. We maintain electronic record keeping, making it easy for different practitioners to follow your case history.

I’m not sure if I need private or semi-private treatment. How do I decide?

We are happy to help you make this decision. If you have a complicated medical history, additional privacy insures that we are able to ask sensitive questions and that you are able to answer them without fear of being overheard. We like to provide ample time for careful differential diagnosis and treatment and we want you to have the best care possible. Private acupuncture insures that complex cases receive the appropriate time and attention.

That having been said, many people have routine complaints that work exceptionally well in a group setting. Sprains and strains, acute colds, headaches, and more are easily treated in an affordable group setting. What’s more, there is tremendous healing power in a group setting, where people are resting in a quiet healing space together. Some people prefer it, finding it comforting and meditative.

Are you accessible to handicapped people?
