It’s been nearly 2 whole years of work to become approved as a provider for Health Partners Plans. HPP covers acupuncture treatments for qualifying Medicare and KidzPartners members. Check your plan to see if you are covered.

HPP covers the following conditions: Acupuncture treatment is generally limited to the following conditions:

    1. As an analgesia for medical procedures;
    2. Chronic pain syndromes, including but not limited to:
      1. Neuromusculoskeletal conditions (e.g., neck, back, extremity pain, radicular syndromes, myofacial pain syndromes, fibromyalgia syndromes);
      2. Headaches (chronic or recurrent, tension or migraine)
    3. Nausea (e.g., following chemotherapy; associated with pregnancy)
    4. PMS or menstrual disorders
  1. For patients with a new condition there should be documented improvement in the following areas that are relevant to the condition being treated. Severity/intensity, frequency and duration of main symptom; and
    1. General fatigue, lack of energy, strength or endurance; inability to complete a normal day’s obligations/tasks; and
    2. Mobility, agility, range of motion, ability to sit/stand/walk; and
    3. Sleep disturbance: difficulty falling or staying asleep, waking too early, not rested upon waking in the morning; and
    4. Decreased quality of life: negative mood, poor coping ability or emotional resiliency; significant relationships strained.

Indications that are not covered

  1. Smoking (tobacco) cessation.
  2. Other conditions not listed in this policy.
  3. Maintenance care is not covered per the member contract.

I have been going to Cara Frank for over 4 years and she has basically been my primary care doctor, keeping my health strong through huge life changes, curing my chronic sinus infections and allergies specifically, but really keeping my whole system in good shape. Cara is an expert in the field, an absolutely wonderful doctor, funny, down-to-earth, and caring friend to her patients. There is no woo-woo or weird stuff to worry about here. I HIGHLY recommend her practice (also Tansy Briggs who is excellent). My husband was a big skeptic, but after seeing my health flourish even during really stressful times, even he began to see Cara for accupuncture and herbs, and is equally impressed and grateful. I’ve been to both practices: one in center city, and the new one on Gray’s Ferry — both terrific!
