Owner & Founder of Six FishesAcupuncturist, Herbalist, Educator, and Author, Cara Frank, L.OM., is the founder of Six Fishes Chinese Medicine, with two Philadelphia locations.
Deeply committed to the health and wellness of her patients, she leads a team of practitioners who share her values of life-long learning, community engagement, and clinical excellence.
Cara is a graduate of the New England School of Acupuncture and Empire State College. Her herbal training was with Ted Kaptchuk, OMD, Simon Mills and at the Xi Yuan Hospital in Beijing, China. It was in China, that her love affair with Chinese herbs took root, and still flourishes. Recently, Cara has studied Classical Formulas with Dr. Huang Huang of Nanjing.

What brings you joy?
In practice since 1983, Cara has been teaching Chinese Herbology since 1996. Cara has been the founder and director of two Chinese Herb Departments, where she designed innovative curriculums, meeting all national accreditation standards. Over the years, she’s taught acupuncturists, doctors, nurses, veterinarians, botanists, and researchers with a bright and humorous teaching style.

What is your superpower?
In 1991, she founded China Herb Company, which was the first mail-order compounding Chinese herbal dispensary in the United States. Cara has developed a line of her own herbal formulas, including formulas for cancer support, respiratory and pediatric health under the brand name “Six Fishes Chinese Herbs.”
She is the co-author of “TCM Case Studies: Eye, Ear, Nose, and Throat Disorders” Published in 2013 by Peoples Medical Publishing House.

What was before Six Fishes?
Cara was raised in a health food store in Brooklyn NY. When she was 8 she cartwheeled 5 miles from Greenwich Village through Soho and Chinatown and across the Brooklyn Bridge. For over 30 years she has had the same crazy passion for Chinese medicine.
At 17, Ill with colitis, Cara had her first acupuncture treatment. At 20 she enrolled in acupuncture school. In 1998 she went to China to study where she fell deeply in love with herbs and has never recovered.
